If you have established a strong personal or private life in the UK, you may be eligible to apply for a visa under the Private Life Immigration Route. This category is often used by individuals who arrived in the UK as children or have lived in the country for a long time without lawful status, making it a potential option for obtaining a private life visa in the UK.

👤 Who Can Apply?

You may qualify for a private life visa in the UK if:

  • You are under 18 and have lived in the UK for at least 7 continuous years, and it would be unreasonable for you to leave
  • You are between 18 and 24, have spent half your life in the UK
  • You are 25 or older and have lived continuously in the UK for at least 20 years
  • You are already in the UK and there would be very significant obstacles to your integration if removed

This route is based on your personal and private life under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights – respect for private and family life, which is crucial for obtaining a private life visa in the UK.

📋 Requirements

  • You must already be living in the UK
  • You must not fall for refusal under general grounds (e.g. criminality)
  • You must provide evidence of your time in the UK and connections (school records, housing, medical history, etc.)

📅 How Long Is the Visa Granted?

Visas under the private life route are normally granted for 30 months (2.5 years). You may apply for further leave or settlement (ILR) later if you continue to meet the criteria.

🧒 Children Born in the UK

If your child was born in the UK to non-settled parents, they may apply under the private life route for a private life visa in the UK if:

  • They have lived continuously in the UK for 7 years
  • It would be unreasonable to expect them to leave the UK

This route may lead to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after a qualifying period.

📂 What Evidence Is Needed?

You will need to show:

  • Proof of residency and length of stay in the UK
  • Letters from schools, medical providers, community support
  • Any documents that show your integration into UK life
